South West Coast of France

This is the view to Marseilles from the mountains behind the city. If it wasn't so hazy you could see the 16th-century fortress-turned-prison, Chateau d'If, more clearly. It is situated on an island 3.5km west of the Vieux Port. This is the island where the Count of Monte Cristo was said to have been imprisoned in Alexandre Dumas’ 1844 novel. Here political prisoners were incarcerated, along with hundreds of religious and revolutionary heros in the 1800s.
